First understand the Ingress Protection (IP)

The protection index, more commonly known as "IP", is an international standard relating to waterproofing. This index classifies the level of protection offered by a material against the intrusion of solid and liquid bodies. For outdoor lighting, we are usually concerned with two numbers: the first concerns protection against solid objects (such as dust), the second protection against water.

For outdoor use, an IP44 rating is generally recommended. This means that your luminaire is protected against solid bodies larger than 1 mm and against water splashes from all directions. If your lighting is close to a water point, opt for a higher index such as IP65 or IP67.

Replaceable or Non-Replaceable LED Lighting: Which to Choose?

LED luminaires have the advantage of being energy efficient and have a long service life. You will have the choice between two types of LED lights: those with integrated LEDs and those with replaceable LED bulbs.

Luminaires with integrated LEDs have the advantage of being thinner and more stylish. In addition, they generally have a very long lifespan (20,000 to 50,000 hours). On the other hand, once the LED has burned out, the entire luminaire will have to be replaced. Which is not ideal.

Conversely, fixtures with replaceable LED bulbs allow you to replace only the bulb in the event of a breakdown. You can also change the color temperature of the light or adjust the wattage by changing the bulb. Use classic models or LED filament for a more retro side.

But which Tint of Light to choose?

The tint of light, also called color temperature, is expressed in Kelvin (K). The higher this number, the "colder" the light will be. Conversely, a low value will indicate a "warm" light.

For the exterior, it all depends on the desired effect. A warm light (around 2700K to 3000K) creates a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for terraces or relaxation areas. Cool light (over 5000K), on the other hand, is more stimulating and is recommended for areas requiring good visibility, such as driveways or driveways.
